Just A Typical Week in Our Life

I got a flier from the school advertising a Daddy/Daughter or Mother/Son Dance this Friday. The flier said, "come have a fun night with your kids before they're too cool to hang out with you." At first I thought Wayne and Austin would not want to go, but then I thought well maybe they would so I decided not to assume and just ask them. As we were driving home from wrestling, I asked the boys if they wanted to go. Wayne immediately declined. Austin wanted more information and asked, "Well what kind of dance is it?" Wayne quickly chimed in and said, "Austin, this is like something straight out of 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid'!" Austin quickly said, "Oh no. I don't want to go to that!" So much for taking them before they're too cool for you!

Brett took the rolling ottoman from chair in the living room and wheeled it over to the laundry room. He was attempting to use it to get some food out of the cabinets in there. But, alas, it got stuck in the doorway. When I saw what he was trying to do I explained to him that it was too big to fit through the door. Instead of taking it back to the living room though he backed up enough to get a good running start and charged into the ottoman at full speed! Much to both of our surprise it went flying through the door way. Brett looked back at me with a puffed out chest and said, "See, I really strong. I crashed it through the door!"

Brett is full of all kinds of attitude these days. It's funny how when they're only 3 years old it's hard not to laugh at their sass, but is grounds for severe punishment when they get a little older ;) The other morning he asked me for a banana. I told him no because lately he hasn't been eating the bananas and usually just ends up squishing them and smearing them all over the table. He didn't like my answer so he burped in my face! That made all his older brothers bust out in hysterical laughter!! I couldn't help, but laugh too...so much for the discipline! Besides burping in my face he, has also been saying a lot of really sassy things like, "I am! Gosh!" or "Okay, Okay" while rolling his eyes. He even got sent to his bed the other day because he said to me, "Fine. Idiot." I was trying to figure out where he was getting all these mean words from and I realized that Austin talks that way to his brothers quite often when he thinks I am not listening. So I decided to try and get to the root of the problem and punish Austin when he says mean things like that. I heard Austin talking mean to Luke so I called him out of his room and made him sit on the couch and hold his tongue between his thumb and his index finger. He did not like that punishment. The whole time he was on the couch he was saying things like, "This is so stupid! I hate this! This is the worst punishment EVER" (all while holding his tongue mind you!) Then reverting to his hypochondriatic nature he finally exclaimed, "this is going to make my taste buds come off!" He thought for sure I'd reconsider the punishment with declaration. But, to his dismay I responded, "Then you better stop saying mean words or you'll never be able to taste your food again!"

Despite all his sass, Brett can be very sweet too. At church he was "fixing" my hair. He was doing his best to try make my hair look like it does after they braid Rapunzel's hair on Tangled :) When he was finished he said, "You're beautiful Mommy" and he kissed me on the cheek!

I brought Bruce with me for the first time to pick up Luke and his friend Lucas from school this week. They are in different classes and both of their teachers wanted to come to the car to see the baby. Luke very proudly showed him off to each of them. Then Luke's teacher, Mrs. Hassch, asked Luke, "Can I take him home?" Luke quickly told her no. She said, "But, I only have girls at home. I want a little boy." Luke looked at her thoughtfully and then pointing to Brett said, "Take him." A few days later we were all in the car and I told Larry about that story. Larry looked at Luke and asked, "Did you say that, Luke? Did you try to give your brother away?!" Luke just stared at Larry like a deer in the headlights and before he could respond Brett broke the silence with his little scruffy voice and stated matter-of-factly, "Yeah, Luke did that." Thankfully Brett didn't seem too traumatized by it ;)

Once again we found ourselves in the car this week, imagine that, and I could hear Luke and Brett were exchanging some less than loving words in the backseat. Luke finally called out to me, "Mom, Brett is saying potty words." I mechanically responded, "Brett stop saying potty words." Brett who must have been feeling rather surly at the moment started chanting, much to Luke's dismay, "Potty words, potty words, potty words!"

At some point during the week we actually found ourselves at home and gathered around the table eating dinner together. Larry looked across the table at Wayne and said, "Wayne we should just shave your head.  You look so good with a buzz." Wayne thought about it for a minute and nodded in agreement. Then Brett climbed up on the table with a smirk on his face and said, "Ok, I shake Wayne's head" and proceeded to grab Wayne's head and shake it!! We all started laughing so hard and Brett wasn't quite sure why. Wayne finally explained, "Dad said shave my head Brett, not shake it!"

And after one of our many busy, fun filled days Larry and Bruce snuggled up on the couch together and fell asleep, aren't they so cute??!!
